5 Important Components Of Commercial Heating System

Commercial heating systems are designed for very large buildings, housing hundreds of individuals. There are five essential components that are present in all commercial heating systems.

1. Controls

A control system is a key part of any commercial heating installation. They may be pre-built into the equipment by the manufacturer or custom-built as necessary by an engineer using their own software and equipment for testing new systems. The controls are responsible for ensuring that the equipment works correctly and that it is performing to its most efficient level.

2. Heat Exchangers

As part of the main work performed by commercial heating systems, heat exchangers capture some of the excess heat produced when cooling pure air down in order to help provide warmth in the winter months. They work with refrigeration units using thermodynamics principles in order to achieve this result. Although they do not necessarily need to be especially large or complicated, they play an important part in keeping costs down and saving energy.

3. Hot Water Flow Timer

All water that enters a hot water central heating system must pass through at least one hot water flow timer before reaching your central heating boiler. Hot water flow timers help conserve energy by preventing the heat transfer from taking place until after all taps have been turned on, ensuring that the right amount of hot water goes to each tap and appliance.

4. Flow and Pressure Valves

Flow and pressure valves are used to control the flow of hot water through the central heating system. This ensures that each tap receives exactly the right pressure, providing sufficient warmth without wasting resources.

5. Over-Temperature Cut-outs

Also known as "globe valves", over-temperature cutouts are an important part of any hot water central heating system, ensuring that the boiler cannot run without sufficient fresh cold water entering it to prevent overheating which would damage the unit's internals. They also prevent the boiler from working at full capacity in areas where there are no hot water taps or appliances. For example, if you live alone and don't use your central heating system for weeks on end, then your local storage tank won't be receiving much input. Because of this, it's important to install an over-temperature cutout that will switch off the boiler's main power supply once the internal temperature rises above a safe level to protect both you and your system.
