2 Common Air Conditioning Problems An Expert Can Help You Fix

Posted on

During the hot season, an air conditioning unit becomes a home and office essential to cool the air and make the environment more bearable. But what happens if your AC is faulty and doesn't serve you as it should?

The best resolution is to call an air conditioning repair professional to assess and fix your machine. Depending on the severity of the damage to your unit, you might have to replace some parts or buy a new unit.

Here are some of the common AC problems a professional can fix.

1. Your AC Won't Function At All

One of the signs of a broken AC is it doesn't function when you turn it on. If the fans don't even turn, your unit has internal problems.

The first thing you should check is the thermostat batteries. After using your AC for a while, the thermostat batteries might run out of charge and need replacement. The thermostat has a set-it-and-forget-it feature, making it easy to forget to check and replace the batteries regularly. Change the batteries and see if they get your AC to function.

You can also check the thermostat settings to ensure you've set them to cool.

If the thermostat batteries have power, you've set the temperatures on the thermostat, and your AC still doesn't function, it's time to call an air conditioning repair professional. The technician will check the circuit breaker and other unit parts to determine the faulty areas. They will fix the broken components or advise you to replace the unit.

2. Your AC Blows Hot Air

An air conditioning unit should blow cool air into your home or office to reduce the heat, especially during hot seasons. If it blows lukewarm or hot air, it'll only worsen the heat inside and cause more discomfort.

You should check and change the air filter when your air conditioner blows hot or lukewarm air. The unit's air filter might clog with debris and dust and limit the cool air blown out. The clogged filter can also cause frozen coils and reduce the machine's ability to cool air.

If you check and replace the air filter and the machine continues to blow hot or lukewarm air, you could be low on refrigerant. Feel the two large copper lines that go into your unit's condenser to check if you've run out of refrigerant. If the lines don't feel moist and cold, refill the refrigerant.

Call an air conditioning repair service in your area to help you refill the condenser with refrigerant. A technician will know how to complete the task without risking causing more damage to your unit.
